Emma Watson Tutorial
My very first tutorial, I hope you find it useful! It was made in Gimp so it is translatable and easy. I just made a batch of icons using this technique and I really like it! For more tuts and icons friend me! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see your results!!

1. Find your base, this tut really works on a wide variety of icons. I recommend not getting a base with really bright reds in the background. I chose this one by
karanna1 at
dont_be_so_base

2. Go to levels, the input settings under value (I think value is the same as rgb in some programs, that may not be correct though idk) should be 0, 1.72, 255. Leave output alone.

3. Now go to hue/saturation. The amount you change the master saturation really depends on your base. Some icons only need 48 whereas others need 100. Some are right inbetween there. Mess around with it and see what you think looks best. For this one I used 100.

4. Duplicate your base and set to screen. Once again the amount you screen it really depends on your base mine was very light. So I set it to 75. You want it to be fairly light. I wouldn't reccomend setting it much higher than 75 though. If you need to you can also go back and change it later.

5. Make a new layer, fill it with 003663 and set it to screen at 49.8. Duplicate that layer once. Gosh that is really ugly. lol

6. Make a new layer and fill it with aed9f9. Set to burn 100. Duplicate that layer and set it to burn 90.2. Because this icon is so light I duplicated the 90.2 layer again. I do not suggest doing that unless your icon is really light.

7. Make a new layer fill with ffe6f6. Set to burn 100. Duplicate that layer.

8. Now go to EDIT/ COPY VISIBLE and paste. (It has been brought to my attention that in PSP8 it is EDIT/ COPY MERGED)Set it to multiply. The number you set it to depends once again on your base. Since this icon is light I set it to 71.2. However when I use this on other icons I usually set it somewhere around 36.7. It really depends on your icon.

9. Make a new layer under the multiply layer. Fill it with fbdd8d and set to multply. Like every other step in this tut the number you set it at depends on your icon. For this icon I set it at 24.7. I recommend somewhere around there for most icons. Sometimes this layer isn't even needed.

10. For this icon I went back and duplicated the blue 90.2 screen layer again. If you want to do this depends like always on your base. lol

11. If your icon needs it smooth it out or sharpen it. Add some text. Here is my final product.

If you liked this tut please leave a comment. I will make more if I get a lot of comments. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask them!
